AI writing helper

Sends only the current text, on click, to an AI model via Vercel AI Gateway. Nothing is stored. Max 12,000 characters.

Type something in the pad first.

A notepad that gets out of the way

NoteFast opens straight to a blank sheet. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign into, so it is quick for the jobs that don't deserve a whole app: a phone number during a call, a paragraph you need to trim to 150 words, meeting minutes, a shopping list, a draft reply you don't want to lose if a form times out.

Everything counts as you type

The strip at the top of the sheet shows words, characters and reading time live. The panel beside it adds sentences, paragraphs, characters without spaces, speaking time and a Flesch reading-ease score. Set a word goal and a thin bar fills under the strip as you get closer.

Track your writing speed

The session tracker measures how many words you add per minute of real typing. It ignores pauses longer than five seconds, so the number reflects your drafting pace rather than how long the tab was open. Most people draft prose far slower than they type in a typing speed test, because composing takes thought.

Several notes, kept on your device

Make as many notes as you like; the list is sorted by last edit and the first line becomes the title. Everything sits in your browser's local storage, which makes it private and fast but not synced. Export a single note as Markdown or plain text, or everything at once.

Notes for studying

Short, dated notes beat long transcripts. Write the question first, then the answer in your own words, then one example. Trying to understand why the Moon cycles from crescent to full? Pause ahaboo's narrated walk-through of lunar phases at each step and write down what the sunlit half is doing.

Keyboard tips

  • Ctrl/⌘ + Z undoes inside the sheet, like any editor.
  • Esc leaves focus mode.
  • Start a line with # to make it a Markdown heading when exported.

Questions people ask

Is this online notepad really free with no signup?

Yes. There is no account, no email and no paywall. Open the page and type. Notes are saved automatically in your own browser.

Where are my notes saved?

In your browser's local storage on this device. They never go to a NoteFast server. That also means they don't sync: a different browser or device starts empty, and clearing site data deletes them. Export anything important as a .md or .txt file.

Can I use it offline?

Once the page has loaded, typing, counting, saving and exporting all work without a connection. Only the optional AI helper and dictation need the internet.

How is writing speed (WPM) measured?

The session tracker counts words you add and divides by your active typing time. Gaps longer than five seconds are not counted, so thinking pauses don't pull your speed down. Press "New session" to start from zero.

How do I download my notes?

Use "Export .md" or "Export .txt" for the open note, or "Export all" to get every note in one Markdown file. Markdown opens in any text editor, Obsidian, Notion import or VS Code.

What does the AI helper send?

Only when you click an AI button, the current note (up to 12,000 characters) is sent through Vercel AI Gateway to a language model, and the rewrite is streamed back. It is not stored or used for anything else.
